Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholarship

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2009 Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation Scholarship Program. Please note that this year we are asking that all Nominations be submitted by March 16, 2009.

Applications will not be accepted after the due date.

The Foundation's mission is twofold. First, we recognize and honor the historic contributions that business men and women have made in our state. Second, we sow seeds for our future by acknowledging and helping underwrite the promise that is being demonstrated by Texas business students. We accomplish this by honoring outstanding Texas business leaders at our Annual Awards Dinner, which will be held in Houston this year on October 15, 2009. Additionally, we assist future business leaders pursuing their degrees in Texas schools by funding a scholarship award program. It is a requirement that all final recipients be present to receive their award.

Our focus this year is to encourage students who demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit to apply. In previous years, this scholarship has been limited to students pursuing their MBA degrees. This is no longer a requirement as we look to find students who will make an impact to Texas Business throughout their careers. In addition, we had previously limited each participating school to three applicants. We have instituted a new step in the program this year that allows for participating schools to submit unlimited applicants. However, we consider the applications that are included in this packet as preliminary applications. Those that are selected to compete in the next round of the scholarship process will be required to submit an additional application. These students will be contacted individually and your office will be notified of the applicants who will proceed to the next round of the selection process.

The Foundation will award scholarships of $10,000 each. We expect the competition among candidates to be keen due to the deep pool of talented applicants enrolled at all our participating schools. Participation in the final rounds of the selection process does not guarantee that a scholarship will be rewarded.

As before, we are requesting that you discuss this opportunity with your students and submit your applications. The nominees should include the best and brightest students currently enrolled in your school. The qualifications are:

  1. Exhibits leadership traits in academic and campus activities
  2. Demonstrates a propensity for entrepreneurial achievement
  3. Has good academic credentials (3.5 or above on a scale of 4.0)
  4. Has outstanding moral character
  5. Is a U.S. Citizen
  6. Willing to personally complete the forms as requested
  7. Willing to attend the Annual Awards Dinner in Houston on October 15, 2009.
  8. Willing to be available for interviews as needed
