IAEP Director’s Message
During this past two years we have developed one of the premier Internal Audit programs and curriculum through innovation, technology and listening to the business community. The program has grown rapidly with new courses offered in audit software, fraud, forensic accounting, ethics, and corporate governance. With the addition of these new courses and the strength of the current Accounting and MIS programs at UTD the program offers one of the most extensive graduate programs in Internal Audit.
With the advent of Sarbanes Oxley and the expanded role of Internal Audit groups a new fresh look at Internal Audit and the skills required was warranted. With guidance from the Advisory Board new material and courses have been added to the program. The key about this program is that it is not just a lot of technical courses on internal audit, but the classrooms are blended with practice and experience from those teaching the courses along with students working on internal audits.
Students in the program participate in the UTD student chapter which engaged in a number of activities through the year. The program is geared to preparing students for internal audit positions through real job experience performing internal audit work with the University and also providing the technical knowledge to pass the CIA or CISA. Student participation and membership in both the IIA and ISACA is highly encouraged to give volunteer opportunities to students to learn from practitioners.
Courses in this program are not only for students, but practitioners with varied backgrounds are welcome and benefit tremendously from the experience of specific courses. Many practitioners over the years have improved the ability to audit technology through the course in Information Technology Risk Management which is geared to the non-IT audit individual. We have done the same this year with Analytic Reviews Using Audit Software is taught by a practitioner with many years of experience in this area.
The support by everyone this past two years is appreciated and we are looking forward to an even more successful year during 2005-2006.
