Career Management
The School of Management Career Management Center (CMC) staff understands the difficult challenge that Full-Time students face in trying to manage their academic coursework while simultaneously managing their job search. Full-Time students are encouraged to follow the timeline below to ensure that their employment expectations are fulfilled.
Prior to beginning class:

Be attentive during LEAD camp while the Career Management Center staff explains the career management process.

Complete the career leader assessment.

Register with the campus web site, UT Dallas Career Works, which will enable you to search for internships and final placement opportunities.

Produce a resume that is reflective of your work experience and academic background.

Get to know the CMC staff and understand how they can help you with your job search.

Follow the Career Management Center curriculum and timeline.

Learn to network and do it everywhere you go.
First half of your degree program:
Visit the School of Management CMC and UT Dallas Career Center in person, or visit the web sites and become familiar with the schedule of workshops and seminars.

Develop a strategic resume.

Learn behavioral interview skills and techniques.

Develop job search skills techniques.

Develop social/business networking skills.
-
Update your resume(s); you may need more than one.

Attend campus career fairs, company information sessions and networking events.

Become involved in at least one student organization, a professional organization in your field or one of the School of Management research centers.

Expand your network; increase your list of contacts and expand your relationships.

Identify opportunities for internships.

Critical: Develop your career focus.

Identify your job target.

Participate in career counseling, if necessary.

Second half of your degree program:
-
Update your UTD Career Works web account.

Start a targeted job search (handouts in CMC).

Participate in interview training: Do mock interviews and know the requirements for the various interview styles and your "target" company norms.

Attend professional organization meetings related to your focus area.

Expand list of prospective "target" employers.

Improve/update your resume(s) and format a powerful cover letter.

Network, Network, Network!

Monitor UT Dallas web job listings regularly; attend career fairs and other job fairs.

Schedule interviews on and off campus.
-
Schedule time with a counselor to discuss negotiating offers.

Evaluate offers; report offers and acceptances to the CMC.
