Master of Science - Accounting & Information Management, Degree Plan

The Master of Science in Accounting and Information Management degree program provides a tailored educational experience that encourages:

  1. a globally-oriented, interdisciplinary focus

  4. a refinement of research and analytical skills that results in enhanced decision-making abilities

The Accounting and Information Management Program is a leader in developing the professional skills that are needed for the core services identified by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants as being fundamental to the future of the profession. Students are offered a choice among seven concentrations that relate to these core services including financial planning and analysis, assurance services, taxation services, international services, management consulting, software management and information management.

Upon completion of the M.S. in Accounting and Information Management, students may sit for the Uniform CPA Examination, provided they meet the education requirements. Students can pursue a curriculum designed for careers in auditing and tax services, or a curriculum designed for contemporary information and software management careers.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite knowledge in calculus and competence in personal computing are requirements for the program. A deficiency in calculus may be remedied by taking MATH 5304 (Applied Mathematical Analysis for Non Majors I), or MATH 1325 (with a B or better). Competence in personal computing may be demonstrated by completing BA 3351 with a grade of B or better or by completing an equivalent course at another university with a grade of B or better. Deficiencies must be remedied within the first twelve hours of graduate work. Degree credit is not earned for program prerequisites.

Basic Business Core (12 credit hours)

Each candidate must satisfactorily complete the following 12-hour basic core.
  • AIM 6344 Financial Statement Analysis*
  • MECO 6303 Business Economics
  • OPRE 6301 Quantitative Methods for Business Decision Making
  • Either OPRE 6302 Operations Management OR
  • AIM 6343 Accounting Information Systems
* Students with prior accounting education or experience may waive AIM 6344 and replace it with a graduate accounting elective, this will not reduce the overall program credit hour requirements.

Specialization Areas (24 credit hours)

Within the M.S. in Accounting and Information Management degree program, the candidate may select one of seven concentrations. Candidates have the option of choosing a concentration that meets their needs based on their previous experience and future aspirations.

Concentrations for non-business undergraduate degree holders who wish to obtain a broad exposure to financial accounting are advised to follow Concentration I. Financial Planning and Analysis.
