Finance and Managerial Economics, Academic Area Home
The Finance and Managerial Economics area is a cohesive group of scholars who are actively engaged in conducting research and bringing state-of-the-art knowledge to the classroom. The research interests of the Finance and Managerial Economics
faculty cover a broad range of issues relevant to both academicians and practitioners. The faculty is actively engaged in research projects related to:
- Financial markets and investment performance
- Corporate financing
- Corporate control
- The economics of intellectual property and information goods
The Area faculty's research has been published in leading academic and practitioner journals including: Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Portfolio Management, and Journal of Derivatives.
The Finance area has an active Ph.D. program, providing students with a strong combination of research methods skills and cutting-edge research seminars. In addition, each year the area sponsors a speaker series bringing distinguished researchers from other universities to present their research to UTD faculty and students. The Finance Area offers a variety of elective courses for both the MBA and undergraduate degree programs, providing students with in-depth knowledge of corporate finance and investment, as well as the critical skills required for professional certifications such as the Chartered Financial Analyst and the Certified Financial Planner.
