Executive MBA Program Faculty
UTD has an internationally renowned faculty committed to teaching in the School's Executive MBA Program. Faculty members chosen to teach in the program are leading scholars, and many are consultants in their areas of expertise. Several of the faculty are editors or serve as editorial board members of prestigious professional and scholarly journals. To enhance the educational experience of the Executive MBA (EMBA) Program, faculty members of other areas in the University as well as highly qualified adjunct professors teach in the program. Our goal is to assure that the EMBA Program has the best possible faculty available.
Jasper Arnold
Dr. Arnold is the Director of UTD 's EMBA Program and a Senior Lecturer, teaching in the areas of management and finance. He has published articles in such journals as Harvard Business Review, Journal of Global Business, and Financial Executive. Prior to entering academia, his business career included positions in strategic planning, commercial banking, management consulting and executive coaching. He has served on the boards of corporations and not-for-profit organizations. He holds a BBA and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin and earned his doctorate from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.
John McCracken
Dr. McCracken formerly served on the faculty of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, as an investment banker with a major Wall Street firm and as a corporate senior financial officer. He also has over a decade of experience in the workout and turnaround management of distressed healthcare and financial services organizations. His principal responsibility at UTD is to serve as Director of the Alliance for Medical Management Education, a strategic partnership between The School of Management and UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. McCracken's holds a masters degree from the London School of Economics and a doctorate from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. In 2005, the EMBA students chose him to receive the Teaching Excellence Award.
Diane McNulty
Dr. McNulty is Associate Dean for External Affairs and Corporate Development in The School of Management (SOM), executive editor of SOM's MANAGEMENT Magazine and senior lecturer in business policy. She holds a PhD in business policy from The University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. McNulty's interests are centered around ethics, business policy, and business /government relations.She serves on several community boards and has varied experience consulting for non-profit organizations.
Richard Miller
Dr. Miller began his career in finance with Standard Oil of Indiana and then with RCA working in corporate management and organizational development activities. His academic career began at the Harvard Business School where he received his doctorate. From there he moved to Southern Methodist University where he co-designed the SMU Executive MBA program. Later, he became director of the Executive MBA program at Wake Forest University. He was the designer and academic dean of the Northwood University Executive MBA program. He has won outstanding teacher awards at each of these schools. He has been teaching leadership, management and strategy at UTD for the last sixteen years and was the first recipient of the UTD Executive MBA Program Teaching Excellence Award in 2004.
B.P.S. Murthi
Professor Murthi is an Associate Professor of Marketing and served as Coordinator of the Marketing Area in The School of Management. He obtained his doctoral degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and is an expert in the analysis of scanner data and brand choice models. His research also deals with consumer promotions, market segmentation and first-mover advantages. He recently started working in the area of electronic commerce.
Mike Peng
Dr. Peng is the Provost's Distinguished Professor of Global Strategy at UTD. He also serves as Executive Director of the Center for Global Business. He is widely regarded as one of the most prolific and most influential scholars in global strategy. The World Bank and United Nations (UNCTAD) have cited his work in their publications. He has published over 40 articles and authored three books, including Global Strategy, a leading textbook that has been translated into Chinese. He serves on editorial review boards of several leading journals, and is Editor-in-Chief of the Asia Pacific Journal of Management. Professor Peng has taught in five states in the United States (most recently at Ohio State prior to coming to UTD) as well as China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. He holds a PhD in strategy from the University of Washington.
Sheila Amin Gutiérrez de Piñeres
Dr. Amin Gutiérrez de Piñeres [Ph.D. Economics, Duke University; M.A. Economics, University of Chicago; B.A. Economics, Texas A&M University] is Associate Provost for Enrollment Services and Associate Professor of Economics and Finance. Her major area of research focuses on the economic development of Latin America with an emphasis on macroeconomic trade issues, the role of international liberalization (trade and financial), and political stability in maintaining sustainable economic growth. Dr. Piñeres has published articles in numerous scholarly journals. She teaches Global Economy in the Executive MBA Program.
Ram Rao
Dr. Rao is UTD's Founders Professor of Marketing. He received his PhD from Carnegie-Mellon University. He has written over fifty papers and serves on the editorial boards of leading journals including Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research and Journal of Business and Economic Statistics. He is a recognized authority in the field of competitive marketing strategy and retailing. His current research and consulting is in the area of marketing and competition models for electronic commerce. He previously served as Associate Dean for Academic Programs in The School of Management.
Jane E. Salk
Jane Salk is an Associate Professor of International Management at The University of Texas at Dallas. She earned her PhD at MIT and has served on the business school faculties at Duke University and ESSEC in Paris. Professor Salk was the 2006 co-recipient of the prestigious Palgrave-Macmillan Decade Award which recognizes the most influential research published by the Journal of International Business during the past decade. She has also published in many other top journals including: Academy of Management Journal, Human Relations, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Science and Strategic Management Journal. She teaches strategic management in the EMBA program and her current research includes a study of the alliance research field as a community of knowledge and the Internet's role in advancing innovation and entrepreneurship.
David Springate
David Springate, Ph.D., serves as Associate Dean for Executive Education in the School of Management. A finance professor, he has teaching responsibilities in the areas of Finance and International Management Studies. Dr. Springate has a Ph.D. in Corporate Finance from the Harvard Business School. He has held faculty appointments at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland and Southern Methodist University. His employment outside academia includes experience as a manager in a Swiss financial investment firm and as President of Vernon Capital Corporation. Dr. Springate has delivered approximately 150 short seminars for executive groups and corporations and his articles have appeared in The Columbia Journal of World Business, The Financial Review and Health Care Management Review. Approximately 28 of his authored teaching cases have been published through the Intercollegiate Case Clearing House or other sources. He was chosen to receive the 2006 Teaching Excellence Award by the EMBA students.
Richard Tozer
Dr. Tozer is a lecturer in business policy and a consultant in Dallas who helps owner-managed companies develop strategies to produce consistent growth in sales and profits. He is a graduate of the doctoral program of the Harvard Business School and was previously assistant to the chief executive officers of a NYSE-listed company.
Mark Vargus
Dr. Vargus teaches financial and managerial accounting in the Executive MBA program. He is an Assistant Professor at UTD. He worked for Martin-Marietta (Lockheed Martin) in the radar systems group as a Senior Engineer on the Longbow/Apache program and has held academic appointments at The University of Michigan and the University of Southern California. Dr. Vargus earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering with honors from The Johns Hopkins University. He received his M.B.A. in Finance, M.A. in Economics, and Ph.D. in Accounting and Applied Economics from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. His current research investigates accounting and stock based incentive systems.
John Wiorkowski
Dr. Wiorkowski is Professor of Mathematical Statistics and serves as Associate Provost at The University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Wiorkowski is an experienced consultant in the general area of statistical applications. His PhD was awarded by The University of Chicago.
